Treatment During Covid-19

We are following state and national recommendations to only provide emergency care until April 1st, 2020. During this time we have put together common questions and answers to help make the transition easier until we can continue normally scheduled appointments. If you had an appointment scheduled during the closure, we will contact you to reschedule when that time comes.

Common Questions & Answers

Find answers to questions that may arise during this time. If you still can’t find what you are looking for, please call our office at 402-742-3000 during normal office hours and we’d be happy to help.

Is the office open?

We are currently closed due to COVID-19 precautions and recommendations put forth by the ADA and CDC. We will have team members answering the phone during normal business hours, as well as availability for emergencies at our North Star Office only.

When will you be seeing patients again?

Per recommendations from the ADA and CDC, we are tentatively seeing patients again on April 1. As we all know, this is a fluid situation and timeline could change. You do not need to call to reschedule and we will take care of that for you when the time comes.

I’ve finished the aligners I have at home. What now?

If there are still more aligners to go in your treatment, call in to the office and you may be able to come pick up more aligners. If you are on the last aligner, continue to wear your aligner full-time. If it is getting too difficult to keep clean, you may wear it nights only. DO NOT STOP WEARING ALIGNERS ALL TOGETHER. Your teeth WILL move, and it will set you back in treatment.

I lost my aligners. What should I do?

As always, if you have it, go to the next aligner. If not, go to the previous aligner. If you have no aligners on hand, call the office. We will likely need to make you retainers to assure that your teeth will not move. If you go without anything, your teeth WILL move.

I had a bracket come off, what do I do?

Depending on how soon we can see you, you might want to try a temporary fix. Loose wires can be pushed into place with the eraser end of a pencil or tweezers if needed. Wax can hold a loose bracket in place to prevent irritation. If the bracket is completely off, we will not be able to rebond brackets at this time. If a bracket comes off, try to save it for us.

If the loose or broken bracket is still causing you discomfort, call the office and we will do what we can to make sure you are comfortable.

I have a pokey wire. Can you fix it?

If you have a wire that has come loose and is poking you, use a spoon to work it back into place. If it is still poking, clip the wire so that it no longer pokes but is still inside all brackets. For a loose bracket, secure it with the temporary fix of dental wax to keep it from annoying you too much.

We will be able to see emergency type of appointments. If your pokey wire is too uncomfortable to handle, call the office and/or emergency line and we will make sure you are taken care of.

I ran out of rubber bands, what do I do?

Call the office, and you can either come and pick some up, or we can arrange to mail them to you.

My retainer broke. Can you fix it?

Call the office and explain what happened. At this time, we cannot reattach permanent retainers, but may be able to help with removable retainers, or make a new removable retainer if you no longer have yours to ensure your teeth won’t shift.

I lost my retainer. What now?

Call the office. We will have someone on call to help make new removable retainers.

What do I do in an after-hours emergency?

It is rare for a genuine orthodontic emergency to occur. What is much more common are simple orthodontic discomforts and mishaps mentioned above. Our phone number is available during normal office hours with additional information on how to get ahold of us during after hours. We want to make sure you’re in good hands if immediate remedies are needed.
